| Donkey has been used since Han Dynasty and has been endowed with new meaning in the era of great Empire of Tang. Donkey was widely used in the transportation, daily life of common people, economic development and activities of sports and entertainments. It is mainly discussed in this paper the management, price, governmental and private usage of the donkey in the Tang Dynasty. The management of the donkey can be classified into production system and usage system horizontally , central system and local system vertically. The system of management was clearly shown by the digging of materials. The price of donkey has been changing so its approximate range can only be certified by the historical materials, that is, from 3000 to 5000 wen. The governmental donkey, as the important livestock power of military and system of post stage transportation in Tang Dynasty, made a great contribution to the military and political affairs, while private donkey made it convenient for the travel and business transportation of common people meanwhile the development of commerce promoted the prosperity of the industry of donkey renting. |
