Study Of Metaphor In Mencius

The various schools of thought and their exponents during the period from pre-Qin times to the early years of the Han Dynasty, they use a lot of metaphors.The exertion of metaphors in "Mencius"has its great characteristics.The scholars today have studied more about it ,but they have not completely analysed about it.This article which is based on different forms of expression classifies the metaphors in "Mencius"into two types:the one is "the metaphors in words and expressions",the other one is"the metaphors in sections and chapters".What's more,this article tries to use modem cognition and metaphor concept to study the metaphors in "Mencius"which is classified into two types too.0ne is ontological metaphors ,the other is structural metaphors.From the cognitive point of view, we can see how Mencius understands the world and how he influences later generations.At last,this article compares the metaphors in "Mencius "with the metaphors in "Zhuangzi"and the metaphors in"Hanfeizi".
