Pinscreen technique appeared during 1930's. This technique was invented by Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Alekseyev and Claire Parker. This new contribution to filmic technique was thought very high in the cinematic area. Using this technique, they made some beautiful pinscreen experimental animations, and these animations give people an extraordinary aesthetic emotion.But because the pinscreen technique has some limitations, many artists who are interested in this kind of art form have to stop trying it. With the development of computer simulation technique, some people began to experiment to simulate the traditional technique of pinscreen. They hoped to use this intermedium to make pinscreen operation more easily, so that this great technique could be touched by many great artists and many people who are interested in it.This article talked about the history and the development of the traditional pinscreen, and also describes the traditional pinscreen technique, the way it is operated, its results, the character of the pinscreen animation and this technique's related difficulties. It also introduces and analyses some methods of using computer to simulate the pinscreen. Testing process and results to make animation with one of the methods of computer simulating pinscreen was written in the finial of this essay.
