The thesis explores the relationship between Bing Xin's works and the Chinese traditional culture, especially the Confucianism, and attempts to make clear the traditional origins of her"Love"philosophy. It argues that the"Love"in Bing Xin's works mainly originates from the Confucian concepts of"Magnanimous Love"; meanwhile it is also characteristic of the"Fraternity"and"Universal Love". The shaping process and connotation of Bing Xin's"Love"are closely related to the Chinese traditional philosophy especially the Confucian philosophy. Through comparison, we think that its relationship with Confucianism is more relevant than its relationship with Christianity. The structural mode, the connotation of some concepts involved, and the social ideal which Bing Xin constructs based on her"Love"philosophy, all demonstrate that the"Love"philosophy has its source from the traditional Chinese culture rather than the western culture. The thesis is composed of five parts:The first part is the introduction which studies systematically the history and current condition of the academic studies on Bing Xin's works and puts forward the main studying point of the thesis. The second, third and fourth parts constitute the main body of the thesis, which are also the first, second and third chapters of the thesis respectively. The first chapter is about the relationship between Bing Xin's"Love"and the love in the traditional philosophy. It makes a detailed comparison between her"Love"and Confucian"Magnanimous Love"as well as the"Fraternity"of the Mohist School in terms of the fundamental meaning, transmission manners and forming motivations. It also involves the comparison with the"Universal Love"of Christianity. The second chapter is on the multiplicity of"Love"in Bing Xin's works. It explores the multiplicity of her"Love"and her sense of life from two perspectives of her life experience and her literary texts, focusing on the influence which the traditional philosophy and culture exert on her.The third chapter is on the structural mode of the"Love"philosophy. It studies the influence of the Chinese traditional patriarchal or familial culture on her from the tripartite structural mode of her"Love"philosophy. The fifth part is the conclusion, which gives a summary of the whole thesis and interprets its studying point further.
