This thesis tries to look into the facts of the literary inquisition about Zha Siting basing on the original materials. Thus, we can see through the political culture of that time by examing Yongzheng's way of hadling it.By doing so, and try to revise some uncertain issues might be resulted. The thesis consists of five parts, which are listed as follows:The introduction presents the goal and scope of this research.A review of the concerned literature shows that the attention to this case has been mainly given to clarificatior of the factual aspects of the test question,namely,Wei-min Suo-zhi,and the general nature of the case.Studies on the impoet of this case remains weak,while considerable amount of materials have not been made in use in the previous studies.This study tries to have a thorough discussion based on imperial edict and Zha Siting's memorials to the throne, and make up the deficiency of the privious studies by making use of some new materials.The second part reviews the whole issue, proving that the test of"Wei-min Suo-zhi"doesn't exit.The real reason for the inquisition is discussed as well by looking into Zha Siting's diary and memorial to the throne.The third part illustrates the connection of this case with the attacking of clique count.The policy of attacking cabal in the early years of Yongzheng period and discussing the effect of the Zha Siting case in the actions against clique are also analysized.The fourth part deals with Yongzheng's disciplines on the scholar-bureaucrats. First, it analyses the difficult roles of the Han scholar-bureaucrats. Secondly, it expounds the model of liege relationship established by Yongzheng. And last, it summarizes Yongzheng's measures of discipline and the strengthening of imperial power.The fifth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the main contents of the thesis and the political culture of the period in YongZheng. The conclusions are: First, the words and deeds of scholar-bureaucrats were controdictionary to YongZheng's orders. Secondly, the way of the disposal of the issue reflected that Yongzheng was thoroughly skilful in using secretaries'contradictions and made use of a subject to elaborate his own ideas. Thirdly, The measures of discipline were a double blade sword.
