In the middle of the 19th century, China and Japan, both deeply influenced by Confucianism, were facing intrinsic crisis caused by feudalism and colonial aggression from western powers。In order to seek national independence and development, as if by agreement, they both started the process of social modernization. But, both countries belonged to the typical type of post-modernization. Different from what happened in the initiative countries, post-modernization is the helpless choice both had to make in order to deal with colonial aggression under the condition that the modernization factors required were not met in their society. To realize that to-be modernization, less advanced countries had to face many difficulties. They urgently needed to learn from the advanced countries in terms of their experiences and cultural achievements, thus induct their country into modernization. Therefore, Japan and China successively sent out study groups to Europe. They explored, and studied western advanced civilization, with the hope of finding "the Daoism scripture". Thus it can be seen that the study groups'visit had close relationship with China and Japan's modernization advancement, simultaneously, it had a noticeable influence on both countries'reforms and marches into modernization. This article, mainly revolving around"comparing the visit of Europe and American of the five important officials at the end of the Qing Dynasty with that of the Yancang Diplomatic Delegation", demonstrates some of the factors that show why after the reforms, China and Japan stepped onto different ways of development. With the emphasis on the comparison of the whole visiting processes of both countries'diplomatic delegation, this article reinterpretes the studies on the comparison of both counties'modernization. At present, achievement of domestic and foreign studies on this, from this view is seldom seen, therefore this article has important academic value. Moreover, this article, would provide reasonable experience for China's modernization in the 21st century. Judging from this, this article's practical significance is self-evident.
