The Annales School And The Scientification Of History In The West

The traditional history presented by Lanke in the 19th century realized the scientification of history in the collection and examination of historical data, which pursued the object of history, advocated the tenet of"according to the facts", and tried to make the history to be an independent discipline. Annales, the most influential school in the 20th century, which founded in inheriting the scientification of history of traditional history, continued to impel the advance of history. The Annales school had transcended traditional history essentially not only in the epistemology and the methodology, but in the history time view, by the tenets of"the problem-centered history","the inter-disciplinary studies"and"the theory of duration", all of these impelled the develop of history. However, at the same time, we also can't neglect the shortcomings which appeared in the scientification of history advancement of the Annales. They had been incompatible with the development of history such as the neglect of researchers'subjective initiative and the political event with significant influence; the ossification in the measure of research and so on. And the post-modern history, a new emerging school, also challenged the object of history. Facing the shortcomings of scientification of history and the challenge of post-modern history, the Annales also do some positive adjustments, the appearance of"the revival of narrative history"was just based on correcting them, and since then the history entered a new develop phase.
