English for Specific Purposes (ESP) as an important branch of English language teaching (ELT), plays a vital role in the process of rapid development of modern science and technology. No doubt, ESP is an indispensable requirement for the multi-skilled personnel with China's entry to WTO (World Trade Organization) and economic globalization. Simultaneously, ESP teaching is becoming the main battlefield of college English teaching with the holistic improvement of the entrants'English level.The present study is an attempt to explore some prominent problems existing in the ESP classroom teaching in Chinese tertiary vocational colleges and universities. The study is an empirical one based on qualitative analysis of the data, collected from the author's teaching experience at several tertiary vocational colleges and universities.According to the results of the investigation, the author reflected upon the ESP classroom teaching in Chinese tertiary vocational colleges and universities, and presented some personal suggestions for the improvement of the ESP classroom teaching, such as teaching thinking through classroom teaching, developing small team communication skills, promoting the fifth skill, teaching writing and reading through web-logs, etc.At the end of the thesis, the author pointed out the limitations of the current study due to the limited space and time, and offered some suggestions for further research.
