With the deepening of reform and opening up, the Chinese government has paid more and more attention to cultural exchanges. Among these exchanges, films and TV plays have played very important roles, and as a result, many foreign films and TV plays have appeared on Chinese screens, and this trend will be reinforced in the future with the further deepening of China's reform and opening up.It is a fact that few Chinese people can fully understand foreign films and TV plays in the original. No matter how nice the original English audiovisual works are, they have to be translated into appropriate Chinese before meeting the eyes of the Chinese audience. To help more Chinese audience enjoy more excellent foreign films, audiovisual translation emerges, as it is required. On the one hand, the market of audiovisual products has been in chaos at present, so the audience aren't satisfied with the translation of many audiovisual works; on the other hand, although some translators have put forward some theories concerning audiovisual translation, the recent research is neither systematic nor comprehensive either in China or in other countries. In this thesis the author intends to analyze the special features of audiovisual translation first, and then tries to suggest two appropriate principles as the guidance of translating practice in the light of the reception theory. Due to the limited space, this thesis has to focus on the study of the translation of English films and TV plays into Chinese. |
