Research On The Pole Record System Of Dramas In The Yuan Dynasty

Presenting an obvious feature of variation, the system of role record forms the original period of Chinese Drama role records systems, among which several role records have gradually become mature in the activity of drama acting, and has finally turned into legends in the following dynasty after its development and evolvement. In some areas, this kind of role record became independent, while in other places it vanished. So it is of special meaning for us to study the system of role records.This article can be divided into four parts:The first part corrects and explains the meaning of role records from three angles of views which are role records, drama role record and roles, in order to tidy up the process of engender of drama role records and the reason why the later generations mixed up these concepts. The author has studied the differences and relations between the three parts and constructed a firm foundation for this article.The second part introduces the source of the classical role records. Just as drama itself, the formation of role records of Chinese classical drama has experienced a long course: as early as the Qing dynasty, the drama Meng Actor's Clothes and Cats was provided with the factors of role records. In the Han dynasty, "the Horn Resisting Drama" has come into existence, in which showed the spectacle of fighting between two actors, and the drama King of the East Ocean was the most typical. In the Tang dynasty, the appearance of "the Enlisting Drama" revealed two immobile role records which are "the Enlister" and "the Gray Eagle". In the Song and the Jin Dynasty, the role record system named "Five Actors Performs a Play" laid the foundation of different types of role records in Chinese Drama.The third part is the principal part of the article, which compares the differences between the role records in the prints of the Yuan and the Ming dynasties, and also discourses upon the dissertation of the scholars in former generations by distinguishing clearly between right and wrong, true and false, through a great deal of reading and analyzing work. And only after these efforts, can we make a correct judge of the role records in drama of Yuan dynasty from the angles of the name origination, the functions, the structures and the standard it has raised to.The fourth part introduces the system of role records and the function of narrative structure in the drama of the Yuan dynasty. The narrative role records of the Yuan dynasty and its function is the combination of the representing part and the narrating part, which together fulfilled the narration of drama in the Yuan dynasty. Various role records cooperated with one another. And an outstanding drama has adjusted the division of different role records.
