"Globalization" is a theoretical fact that the current theories field can not evade .Cultural "globalization" also spreads imposingly within the scope of world. The oriental culture is bound to collide with western culture and the western culture also wants to carry on exchanges with the oriental culture.Under such a background, How Chinese movie participate the fierce competition of global movie industry, and occupy a fierce place in the international market?Chinese film directors such as Zhang Yiou,Chen Kaige and Wu Yusen did make a lot of efforts, yet only Li An has attained success in both art and business. His movies brought the culturally heterogenous west a delightfully oriental fresh breeze and thus won the common approbation of the eastern western audience.This thesis attempts to analyze from 4 aspects the Chinese and western cultural characteristics of Li An's movies, and explores the cultural strategy he adopted in the process of fusing two different cultures.Chapter 1, mainly introduces Li An the movie director, his ovies and the profound oriental charm in the movies from three parts mainly, his ultiple cultural identity and directing career,Chinese-western conflict and common confusion, and tactful "Chinese way of thinking". This chapter, presenting an outline of the whole thesis, starting from the pecularity of Li An'sidentity, concludes that the success of his ovies relies on his "Chinese way of thinking",in other words, oriental characteristics.Chapter 2 explores Li An's borrowing western culture from the technical and culture aspects. Western culture appears in his ovies in two forms: western technical culture and western traditional culture. He learned the foral elements of ovie directing fro the former one, while the latter deeoly pereates into his lens. This chapter ainly talks about the western cultural factors in his movies. It is divided into four sections: the classic Hollywood narrative frame,poetic lens language, natural fluent voice and western traditional culture in his movies.Chapter 3, in contrast with the chapter 2,will follow Li An's sooth and fluent movie language to experience the deep-ingrained oriental sentiment.The author of the thesis will examine the oriental aesthetics revealed in the ending and detail of his movies from the perspective of oriental aesthetic theory and probe into the profound yet concrete oriental cultural features in furthur detail. further detail on display present a deep but concrete oriental culture special featuresFinally, chapter 4 will exaine how Li An strived to cater for the common psychology of the eastern and western audience from the angle of cultural fusion and cultural convergence. It can be divided into 2 parts, the theme of common human nature and the artistic form of type movie. The chapter, integrating the second and third chapter, and presenting an intertext to the chapter 1, exploresthe Chinese and western cultural fusion in Li An's movies.
