As an important part of China's entire educational undertaking, education of ethnic minorities makes an organic element of the social development of ethinic regions. Considered as the premise of harmony in ethnic regions and important methods of ethnic equality, development of eudcation in ethinic regions will quicken their paces toward modernization, training of human resources from ethnic minorities and improvement of national equality. In a new historical era, the promotion of research on national education, especially bilingual education of ethnic minorities, is of great significance for the implimentaiton of CPC's policy concerning ethnic minorities, for the economic development and social stability of ethnic regions, and for the unity among different ethnic groups.Bilingual education of ethnic minorities has always been taking an important role in China's education. Bilingual teaching among ethnic minorities answers the call for general improvement of their quality and for general advancement of the education undertaking; and it is a historical necessity as well. Xinjinag is a multinational region, with ethnic minorities making up 60.4% of its total population. For this reason, education, and bilingual education of ethnic minorities in particular, plays an important role in Xinjiang's educational undertaking.As part of human education, language teaching is subject to language,cultural and ecological environments. The effects of linguistic and cultural environments on education differ from group to group; and the influences of language,cultural and ecological environments vary from student to student, from policy maker to policy maker, and from teacher to teacher. Similarly, the identical group, which live in different languages and cultural environments, may have different effects and influences on education.The development of bilingual education will not be achieved without language and cultural environments; and there exists a co-evolution between them. Xinjiangis a multi-national region where language,cultural and ecological environments vary greatly from place to place.Consisting of 4 parts,this thesis has taken into account the distribution and language environment of ethnic minorities living in different cultural and ecological environments while it reveals the effects of different language,cultural and ecological environment on bilingual teaching.The 1st part is an analysis of the concept of bilingual education of ethnic minorities and relevant theories,the current conditions of ethnic bilingual teaching in Xinjiang.The 2nd part deals with the relation between educationl ecological environment and education of ethnic minorities . The 3rd part, in which the theory of educational ecology is employed, focuses on the effects of Xinjiang's language, cultural and ecological environments on bilingual education of ethnic minorities. The 4th part includes a summary and some suggestions concerning bilingual teaching of ethnic minorities in Xinjiang.
