Stone historical relics, such as stone tools of the Stone Age, rock caves, statues, stone tablets and engravings relics, are the glorious culture of China. One of the most notable characters of these cultural heritages is that they are non-renewable. But as years gone, stone historical relics in the world have been suffered from lots of damages, concluding long-time exposure in the sunshine, gale, heavy rain and snow. All have caused the stone cracking to powder. The results are that the characters of tablets are fuzzy, the outline of statues are unclear and so on. So the stone historical relics needs for the conservation urgently.Conservation of the stone historical relics mainly includes the following three steps: cleanout, reinforcement and seal. Among them the step of seal is the essential one. It determines the validity and the permanence of conservation. This paper mainly researched polymer and silicate ester seal materials.This study modified fluoropolymer and silicopolymer. Parameters such as the time of form solidification, water repellence, gas permeability and ageing resistance were investigated,and then obtain fluoropolymer and silicopolymer seal materials with good effect. On this basis, the functional nanometer material was mixed into the sealer. Through in-situ polymerization, the nanometer particle are disperse evenly in the sealer. This paper also had studied a kind of co monomer sealer which could polymerize in the stone. Through optimizing the monomer ratio, amounts of water and solvent, silicate ester, which had high permeability, was applied to stone directly. It connected the stone with chemical bonds, and polymerized to form sealer on the stone. Several performances were also analyzed.The next part of paper was selecting, testing and modifying the role of some functional nano materials, which were uniformly dispersed in the protection material mentioned above.The result showed that these two sealers had well effect in stone historical relics conservation, which could remarkably improve the stone's water repellence and ageing-resistance, the gas-permeability was also reformed. In a word, the reacting inorganic coating, silica-sol and the silicate ester have good re-protection value and application prospects in stone historical relics conservation.
