Abstract/Summary:
The 20th century is a period of time during which the BlackAmerican Literature is moving from the edge of literature to itsmainstream rapidly. With black civil rights movement and woman's rightsmovement, the group of feminine writers has risen up and has created theprominent literature phenomenon at the second half of the centuryespecially. It is an eternal invariable rule that "Literature is the study ofhuman beings". From the perspective of humanism which is still new inliterature, this paper attempts to make a thorough appraisal on the historyof Black American Feminine Novel in the 20th century based on otherprevious studies. The present paper falls into two parts: roots and displaysof feminine humanism, and these two parts can be divided into fourchapters altogether.Chapter One analyses the roots of the feminine humanism in blackwomen's novels from three aspects, namely the European tradition withthe influence of modern humanism ideological trend, the traditionalculture influence of black Africa, and the living circumstances of blackwomen. Chapter Two, Chapter Three and Chapter Four elaborate thehumanism manifestations in 20th century literature. Chapter Two andChapter Three, from the angle of daily life and spirit, illustrate the blackfeminine writers' focus on normalpeople's everyday life with a lowattitude, their deep understanding of human nature in folk-custom, theirconspicuousness of traditional humanism flags, including universal love, forgiveness and cooperation, and as well as their succession of modernhumanism thoughts such as the definition and the integrity of subjectivityconsciousness. Chapter Four tries another perspective, fully excavating thefeminine image from feminine homosexuality, horrific maternal love, and the female images interwoven with good and evil and so on. These are thecontroversial images or themes for they are in contradiction withtraditional morality and common literature subjects. This chapter unfoldsthe variations of black female lives in extreme survival circumstances, manifests black feminine writer's profound understanding into humanismand their tolerance of the complexity of human nature. It also directlycriticizes the unique multiple-oppressed life of Aframerican women, andcalls for the equality of all human beings as well as the respect to allhuman beings, which are advocated exactly by humanism.Taking the humanism as a red line, this article outlines a generalpicture of Female Aframerican Novel in the 20th Century, and describeseach and every aspect of the humanism thought. As every contradiction isspecial, the unique life circumstances determine the humanism in FemaleAffamerican Novel, which is at variance with that of the white women orthe black men. Therefore, the writing of black women is a show of theirunique understanding of life.In brief, this paper attempts to provide a good literature platform tohelp readers realize thoroughly the depth and beauty of human nature ofthe multi-oppressed disadvantaged groups, enriches our understanding ofblack feminine literature connotation, further develop our humanismthought in the new time, and also let the flag of humanism continue to risehigh in the 21st century. Only by making this, can we achieve the value ofthis paper.
