This thesis includes two chapters; one is for discussion on the character ofFanyun and another is for discussion on Fanyun's works. There are two parts,Fanyun's biographical notes and his personality, in the first chapter. As toFanjyun's life, there is still something to be worth paying attention to. For example,Cao Daoheng and Liu Yuejin believed the time when Fanyun went to Yingzhou Fuwith his father was in the third year of Taishi (AD 467), when Shenyue arrived inYingzhou Fu with Cai Xingzong. Through careful investigation, however, theauthor believes that Fanyun went to Yingzhou Fu in the second year of Yuanhui(AD 474), when Shenyue arrived in Yingzhou Fu for the second time. This isconsidered as a more careful investigation. Take the time when Fanyun was theJishi of Xiao Ziliang, the Situ for the first time as the example, there was a debate;some believed it was the second year of Yongming and others believed it was thefifth year of Yongming. Through the events of Fanyun ever holding a post ofShangshudian Zhonglang, the author takes it as a clue and tests it and believes it isin the second year of Yongming that Fanyun become the Jishi of Xiao Ziliang, theSitu.In the part of Fanyun's personality, the author concludes his spirit andpersonality, which were presented in his social behavior and relationship.According to historical materials, there are several main parts about his personality:being upright and outspoken, having Confucian conduct, being free fromcorruption, encouraging and promoting the youth, talking cleverly, and etc. In theend of the first chapter, The Appraisal of Fanyun's Personality is the discussion onhis"making a political recantation"in Qi and Liang Dynasty.In the second chapter, Fanyun's works are discussed. There are three parts: thespread, the themes and the styles of his poems. According to research, the mostparts of The Collection of Fanyun's Works had already been lost in Tang Dynasty.After about Song Dynasty, people had not seen this collection. There seemed to bea collection of his poems, which handed down the poems ever, but it has not beenfound now. Although there are fewer existing poems now, the themes of his poemspresent varieties of styles. This thesis discusses six categories: friendship, love,living in seclusion comfortably, traveling and holding a position in other places,fighting in the front and chanting objects respectively.As to the styles of Fanyun's poems, Zhongrong appraised in his Comment on Poems"they are fresh, mild and indirect, like a refreshing breeze or snowflakesdancing in the air". The thesis divides them into three parts to analyze, that is,delicate and pretty, mild and indirect, and magnificent and powerful. The mostparts of scenery description In Fanyun's poems present the delicate and prettyfeature; the sentence styles and the poem themes present the mild and indirectfeature. The latter also has something to deal with a lot of functional words used inthe poems. In addition, the magnificent and powerful feature is showed as varietiesof time and place change. In the end, this thesis believes that the styles of Fanyun'sworks are the same as that of Qi and Liang Dynasty and that he participated in thepoem creation of Yongming ti.Time Series of Fanyun's Events and his Poems and Proofreading on Fanyun'sPoems are two kinds of work in the earlier period of thesis writing. They are put inthe end of the thesis's body as appendix 1 and 2.
