| Folk arts, created and enjoyed by the common people for thousands of years, provide us with an art of native soil. Under the situation of economic globalization and national modernization, folk arts, however, are facing great impact never existed before, whose living space is changing dramatically. As a part of non-material cultural heritage, folk arts are facing not only the problems of protection and transmission, but also the problems of exploitation, development and evolution. How to connect folk arts with modern design and connect traditional folk cultural spirit with modern time spirit and how to look for the point of contact with modernity is a very urgent problem which is worth our serious thinking and putting it into use.Based on the analysis of folk arts' position and importance in modern life and the study of the general development and existing problems of Chinese modern design, this thesis explored modern design's well treating and using and bringing forth new ideas in folk arts, and relocate folk arts' position in modern design. We hope that by exploring and refining the cream, folk arts will become one of the new sources of Chinese modern design. On the other hand, we also hope that modern design will provide folk arts with new energy, new function and new age features, enabling folk arts to be in harmony with modern people's life. Therefore, as modern Chinese arts designers, we should always keep a clear cultural consciousness and try our best to make Chinese folk arts and modern design send forth unique artistic charm on the world stage. |
