Chinese Words Borrowed From Japanese

The relationship between China and Japan receives a lot of attention in the history of the intercultural communication in China. Chinese culture has great influences on Japanese culture, especially on the formation of the Japanese words. Before Meiji Reform, the formation of Japanese words was greatly influenced by Chinese culture. And after Meiji Reform, Japanese words began to have impact on Chinese words. This historical change marked a new epoch in the intercultural communication between China and Japan.This thesis collects the Japanese loanwords in Chinese and tries to explore the nature and characteristics of these words. The loanwords collected are divided into new Chinese and the Japanese loanwords in contemporary Chinese according to the time when these words came into Chinese. Employing the methods of comparing and statistics, this thesis analyzes the characteristics indicated in the formation and meaning items of these words. Through the analysis, this thesis summarizes the features of the Japanese loanwords in Chinese and thus tries to explore the nature of the Japanese loanwords. The result is drawn by comparing and analyzing a large amount of samples and data. And the conclusion is supposed to have some contributions and implications to Japanese language research in China.
