| The present gaudy art in China was started from the middle 1990's, developed across next century ,continued up to date and become the important typical appearance of modern and contemporary art in China. It had the same historical origin with Chinese traditional vulgar culture, but as a special vocabulary in present language situation, the gaudy directly reflected typical feature of the trend of Chinese culture since the1990's-----With the development of market economy, cultural consumption has showedthe feature of instantaneity, utility and vanity.When the public slavishly imitated popular fashion drove by the present fetishism mental, the gaudy art uncovered the public taste of vanity, flamboyance, secular vainglory. It criticized overly pro forma raffishness with gaudy form, it spread out the gaudy objects in reality, parked with more raffishness and made them expose directly with vanity, flamboyance, atrocity. "Irony" was its great trait of criticizing the reality.Though the gaudy art raised gaudy banner, its major idea was different from the public culture consumed in our life. It not simply produced gaudy artwork, but imitated gaudy scene. "Imitation" was its major expressive form.As a important style in the present art, the gaudy art directly revealed and obviously criticized the present social reality in China. Its influence involved many fields of culture and art.
