To show the characters of image theory in China from that in the West, this essay, through the comparison, discusses the culture origin, the philosophy basis and the process of evolution of Chinese image theory. In the creation of an image, Chinese essays pay more emphasis on the integration of the feeling and the scopes, that is ,the integration of things both the subject and the object, while the Western ones are apt to regard an image as only things of the object, that is, the appearances of experiences. Chinese image theory has a close relation with the philosophy ideas of pre-Qin dynasty, which came through a process from Xuanli, image to tasting image of literature. The discussion of image from observing and image to exclusive meaning in Biography of Yi laid a basis in thinking method to the creation of classical poetic Chinese image theory. All these help to form the thinking tradition of image-favored and human-nature culture mode through affecting and shaping profoundly the mind, thinking of Chinese, and thus become an important characteristic through inheriting and storing up for a long time. With many images are there in Chinese ancient works, this essay chooses such representative ones as willow, moon and flowing water, and gives a solid analysis on them from a angle of culture, philosophy and aesthetics. For example, an image of willow represents a department; an image of moon stands for persistence, an image of flowing water concludes a sadness, etc. In addition, because these images ,most of which can express home missing, loving, time and awareness of life, are versatile, full of meanings and a little identical, they become a prototype, an important symbol expressing the native culture feelings if they often occur in all kinds of works. All these not only embody fully the philosophy vision of integration of human-nature, all are living and the aesthetics tendency of upholding the female, but embody the Chinese poetry type of love, the love of human being themselves and persistent wooing. The contemporary meaning of the studying of an image of willow, moon or flowing water lies in the strengthening national culture identification from full-bodied folk culture characters, the strengthening national makeup from the idea of upholding the female, the pursuing of a happy life from the fierce feeling of being, which embodied by the images to be a spirit of becoming stronger and toughing and thus inspired the activity of national living and condensing. So, an image is not only showed in an individual but in the persistence of the whole nation. All these will be meaningful to the constitution of the national activities in a far-reaching way.
