On The Debating Art PF Hong Ming Ji

Hong Ming Ji by Seng You of Liang Dynasty in Southern Dynasty is the Buddhist literature compilation including 185 articles written by 123 authors from the Eastern Han Dynasty to Qi,Liang periods of Southern Dynasties. It aims at"safeguarding the Darma and Expounding Buddhism". Hong Ming Ji, seen in the perspective of its content, belongs to the prose debating with monks and laymen, but it has been in contract with several popular kinds of literature forms such as opinion, letter , official calls to arms etc.. The past researchers attach more importance to its value of philosophy and science of culture, and the attention paid to its characteristic of literature and art is much less.The most of its argument prose has its own distinctive characteristics by inheriting the characteristic of XianQin and two Han dynasties and being influenced from metaphysics and Buddhism in WeiJin and southern and northern Dynasties. It, having shown the maturing trend, can be called a post-dating history, which has displayed the changing trend from plain to the gorgeous in the periods from the Eastern Han Dynasty to southern and northern Dynasties. It, as the representative of the argument articles in the Southern and Northern Dynasties, has a major impact on the prose of Tang and Song Dynasties and has led to the argument inherent cultural changes, therefore the literary achievements of the prose of Tang and Song Dynasties has its own distinctive characteristics different from Dong and Xi Han dynasties. So the study of the literary value of Hong Ming Ji will be of great historical meaning and interest.In the introductory part of this thesis, the author has introduced the author of Hong Ming Ji and its main content systematically. The main text can be divided into four parts and the author has respectively researched on the recipient history environment, selecting standard, the evolution of writing styles and the debating art. In the end, the author has made a conclusion that the outstanding debating art has important effect on the development of the exposition and argumentation prose in Tang and Song Dynasties. The study and discussion of the literature value of Hong Ming Ji is most important.
