A Study On The Correlation Between Forgiveness And Mental Health Of College Students

This paper is about forgiveness and the correlation between forgiveness and mental health of college students. It takes 323 college students who came from nanjing normal university and nanjing university of science and technology as subjects , including 167 males and 156 females. By means of questionaire and private interviews, this article analyses the present situation of college students' forgiveness and the relationship between forgiveness and mental health , and reach to draw conclusions by demonstration:1,At present, most college stuents have high forgiveness level ,but some students still need to improve their forgiveness level. There are significant difference in gender and grade of liberal arts students' forgiveness. There are mutual influence of gender, grade and whether or not only one child in a family in engineering course students.2,The relationship between forgiveness and mental health is positive correlation, which means the level of mental health is high in the college students tending to forgive and is low in the students who have retaliation tendency.3,Forgiveness has negative correlation with negative mental health index, such as somatization, compulsion, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobia, paranoia, psychoticism, sleep difficulties etc, and has positive correlation with positive mental health index, such as happiness, life satisfaction, positive affect, subjective vitality, health concer, self-worth, positive relation, altrism commitment, person growth etc. Multiple regression analyses identified paranoia, hostility and negative affect have negative influence to forgiveness, and altrism commitment, positive relation and positive affect etc have positive influence to forgiveness.4,The degree of correlation between college students' forgiveness and mental health is different in subject,gender and grade.
