The Transition And Construction Of Work Ethics Under Market Economy

Whether in the East or the West, the relationship between economy and moral has been the focus of people's attention, because people want to live in a world that is not only economic development, but also moral character. Now, China is in the period of transformation, the economic system and ethic morals are all being changed. Therefore, in order to understand the changes in modern ethics life, and guide these kinds of changes, it is necessary to study the interrelationship between the change of the economic system and ethics. Of course, the spirits of the ethics and morality in a society are reflected in several aspects, and we can not involve all the factors here. The main purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between work ethics and transformation of economic order.The understanding of work ethics in this article is mainly to draw lessons from the definition which our country scholar Wang Hejian gives. He believes that the work ethics is the value judgment or attitude, which is about why Chinese actors engage in occupations (what are the significance and power for work) and how to engage in occupations (what are the norms and restrains for work). What planned economy needs is a "collective" work ethics, because Chinese highly centralized planned economy order is formulated and implemented by the state from top to bottom. Therefore, people must accept a altruistic and absolutely obedient work ethics. Along with Chinese reforming to open up and the establishment of market economy, the original planned economic order has gradually been replaced by the new economic order, while being as the ethical basis of the economic order, the work ethics is inevitable changed. So we must build new work ethics and cultural habits which is in conformity with economic order.There are three key contents in this article:1. Planned economy and the demands of work ethics. Independence initially, because of objective and subjective reasons, China has implemented a highly centralized planned economy system. This system required that the nation controls the allocation and use of all resources, the enterprises and individuals depended on the state completely, and they had no independent economic activity. The labor relations were characterized by planned economy, and it leaded that individual had no right to choose its own, everything's distribution and unified management was in accordance with the needs of national development. So the community followed the collective work ethics, which is absolutely obedient and willing to sacrifice for the content. To build national collective work ethics, the state carried through political propaganda and education in the community to set several examples such as Lei Feng, Jiao Yulu and Wang Jinxi, their spirits affected Chinese people from generation to generation. In a certain period of time it played a role in promoting social stability and development.2. The establishment of market economy and the changes in work ethics. With the continuous development of the economy, the planned economy has increasingly shown its drawbacks hindering the development of the productive forces, and the collective work ethics is coming down gradually. Market economy is that the market plays a basic role in resource allocation in the economy. It is certainly reasonable and legitimacy to pursue personal interests. It encourages people to exchange equivalent on the basis of the principles of fair competition, thus the resources can be distributed freely and rationally. This time, the labor relation between the enterprises and individuals has also undergone a great change, enterprises carry out "operate independently, self-financing ", and individuals have the right to choose their own careers. Through the signing of labor contracts between enterprises and individuals, it can protect the interests of both sides. It is in such a background, the work ethics of market economy has positive and negative forms of expression. The generally positive side is fair competition ,the pursuiting of efficiency, autonomy, cooperation and the spirit of pragmatism. The negative side is the extreme utilitarianism, consumerism and credibility crisis.3. The building of new socialist work ethics. Although the socialist market economy encourage individuals to pursue their own interests, but it is different from the capitalist market economy after all, it remains to achieve common prosperity for the people as their goal. This requires us to absorb good ethic spirits from capitalist market economy, and make good efforts to overcome its negative aspects, which is in order to build work ethics adapting to the socialist market economy. In this process, we must establish correct concepts of socialist morality and benefits, public and private. It is necessary to understand that the interests between self and others, between self and collective are closely tied. To put their personal interests as work's targets is neither conducive to social harmony and progress nor conducive to the realization of personal interests. So, this requires that we should reconsider collective spirits. We should abandon the absolutely collective spirit under the planned economy, and carry forward new collective spirits which adapt to the socialist market economy.Today, there are still few relative researches about work ethics in China. When we see more and more people becoming confused and anxiety in heavy work pressure, we have the necessary attention to build and study the effect on work ethics. Because it not only can help us fully to understand the purpose and significance of the work, but also can help us to resolve the various ethical conflicts of the work. It will improve the efficiency of the whole society, and it will supply a civilized and harmonious environment for Chinese economic development. Therefore, the study of work ethics has great theoretical and practical significance.
