On The Study Of Suiyang Dialect

This paper is finished on the vast and profound field research of Suiyang dialect and the achievements of researches conducted by preceding scholars. Suiyang dialect is a part of southwest mandarin .As a sub-branch representative of dialect in the north of Guizhou, it has its own special features in the sound, lexical items, grammar rules but at the same time it has commonality with other branches of Guizhou dialect.This paper sets Suiyang dialect as the study target, listing its features in phonological system, morphology and syntactic patternsThis paper has four parts:The first part is "introduction", briefly introducing the human geography, historical evolution of Suiyang county, the significance and the study method of the paper.The second part is "the phonological system of Suiyang dialect", describing objectively the phonological system of Suiyang dialect, including the 19 initial consonants(including the null initial consonant),the 37 vowels, the 4 tones. About synonymous characters, the paper just collects the frequently-used ones in the dialect.The third part is "the morphology of Suiyang dialect ", focusing on the morphological patterns and the grammatical functions. This part is further divided into two chapters: the first chapter is about content words while the second functional ones. The first chapter is about content words, firstly describing nouns from its duplication forms, r-suffixation, suffixes, plural forms ;secondly describing verbs in its appearance and its duplication forms. ; thirdly describing the duplication forms and comparative degrees of adjectives; finally coming to traditional patterns of numerals and classifiers and their duplication forms. The second chapter is about the functional words, introducing the meaning and usages of some modal articles in addition to some special dynamic verbs such as"de, dao, qi, daoqi, guo"and so on.The fourth part mainly studies some special syntactic patterns .For example, the passive pattern is marked with"zhao[tsau]²¹" instead of'bei". In addition, there are some dissimilarities between Suiyang dialect and Putonghua in questions, and the inner structure of questions and their expressions.In all, this paper introduces, analyzes and discusses Suiyang dialect from the perspectives of forms& structures, syntactic distribution, semantic expressions and comparison & contrast, aiming to achieve a deeper understanding of its phonology, morphology and the syntactic patterns .For the arrangement , the paper adopts the strategy of "more words for the complicated and fewer ones for the simple " , striving for the principle of "observation adequacy, description adequacy and explanation adequacy " . This paper hopes that through the exposition, it may provide something valuable for the further study of Guizhou dialect.
