The close attention to youth image has been a prominent cultural phenomenon in China mainland filmdom since 1990. The new-generation directors focused on the youth image of narrative in films popularly. The new-generation directors describe the growth experience of the youth in the process of a changing society. As a result, the films display a representation of the group image of the youth. The thesis is based on psychoanalyst Lacan's theory of mirror image. Through the theory, the thesis analyses the specific film on youth, to narrate the growth experience of the youth and express the maturity requests of the new-generation directors in reality. The text of thesis is composed of three chapters. The text involves: the specific identity and desire claimed for "self, restraint on "self by authoritarian "other", and the narration strategies to interpret the growth experience in films. The new-generation directors show the warmest solicitude for the humanity throughout their production since 1990s.
