The paper studies dancers of Shanghai(1927-1945). Based on inspecting the development and operating rules of ballrooms, through studying the background of dancers there and the development of dancers groups, and work, love and marriage of them, the paper intends to sketch the real face of dancers in this period and to finds dancers group's modernity and subjectivity. This paper thinks that the group of dancers were modern career women, they had greater freedom and "power' than traditional family women in pursuit of work opportunity, love, free marriage . In the special public space of ballroom, they challenged the traditional male-female gender relations. Now how do we get the impression about dancers? Based on inspection of the different statements of persons in this period and the response of dancers, the paper explains how the image of dancers was building up between complicated relations.The article is composed of Introduction, body, conclusion . The body is divided into six sections .The first section describes the change and development of ballroom during the period from1927 to 1945 and persons' attitude at ballroom and dancing; Section II presents internal staff of ballroom and their responsibilities and the rules that Wuke in the ballroom needed to comply with; Section III explores the backgroud of dancers groups there and the development of dancers groups in this period ; Section IV introduces dancers how to work in ballroom; Section V descripts dancers' love and marriage, and analysizes dancers how to challenge traditional gender relations in the ballrooms. VI explains how the image of dancers was building up by people and dancers themselves .
