At present, colleges and universities in China have set music as a public selective course, in order to implement the educational principles in an all-round way and make great efforts to promote quality-oriented education. Public selective music course is aiming at cultivating high-quality talents to meet the need of the construction of socialist modernization. It is irreplaceable in improving ability of appreciating beauty, fostering creativity and practicing capability and building healthy characteristics. Practice of musical arts is an indispensable and organic part of music education. It is also lively and popular among students, so as to be an effective method of music teaching. In-class teaching and practice of musical arts, combined reasonably, will infuse great vitality into the music education in colleges and universities.This thesis consists of three parts: introduction, text and conclusion. The first part introduces briefly the present situation as well as the academic and practical value of music education in colleges and universities in China.
