In the history of Chinese contemporary literature, Chili is a heterogeneous existence. She ranks among those few writers who are persistent in depicting the daily life of the common folks. Her works are very popular with ordinary readers, but was criticized by the elite readers. The critical circles generally think her works lack rich content, lack serious cultural foundation. But this thesis thinks that Chili's novel have profound cultural accumulation, the artistic specialities of her works have inextricable link with unique regional culture of Wuhan. She fixes her eyes on Wuhan's Person and thing, and firmly holds on to the value position of the rank and file and extols their way of life in a free and easy narration. She is noted for her covert humor and plebeian dialogues. In her novels, she offers a candid portrayal of average citizens who live in both frustrations and aspirations. Compared with the desolate regional novels of Sanqin and the fresh attractive regional novels of Wuyue, Chili's novels is an important transition patterns between North and South.
