Vocabulary is the basic element of a language. Without vocabulary, there would be no language. Human beings would be unable to communicate with each other. Vocabulary learning is an essential part of language learning. It covers what we should learn, including what kinds of words and strategies we should be taught. This paper discusses the two approaches to vocabulary learning: implicit learning and explicit learning and an integrative approach, integrating these two approaches. They are complementary. If we can use them scientifically, we would save a lot of time and energy while learning.
