Edward T Hall has been regarded as one of the most prominent anthropologists and the founder of the discipline of Intercultural Communication. This paper sets out to make a brief study of Hall's major theories and his influences on China's intercultural communication studies (Later on ICS for short, whenever necessary). A brief review of the development of ICS in China may reveal Hall's strong influences, mostly positive and partially negative. Therefore, it is of great importance to better appreciate the former and overcome the latter so that further efforts may be made in the right direction for the development of this young discipline.
