Abstract/Summary:
As the significant representative of Pioneer's novel, Su Tong contributed to the forming of modern Chinese literature as a destroyer and a constactor as well. Since late 1980s,Su Tong has issued more than 3,000,000 words, thus formed the story world of himself. This world embodied the diachronic character of his novel. In this essay, according to Su Tong's novels, the writer tries to explain his novels in two chapters, and intensifies efforts to make an overall and whole exposition. The first part of the essay is an explanation of Su Tong's novels. First, escape from reality and the returning to one's spirit. Second, warm-heartedness and violence of the human nature. Third, loneliness and the shortage in one's emotion. Fourth, the consciousness of life and the concernment of death. In Su Tong's novels, they percolate each other, but basically speaking each theme does not wholly overstep the worm of humanity. Through this angle, the core of the novel is humanity and humanism. Whereas other themes are extensions or reexponding from this one. The second part of the essay discuss the art of narrating, mainly from three respects, the visual angle and the style of narrating, and the imagery. From the themes to narrating arts, Su Tong's novels have pioneer nature and exploration, thus established his distinct individual characteristic of creating. In last part, I affirm the existence value and meaning of Su Tong, and also think deeply of his predicament. But in my view, the real pioneer means a kind of exploration spirit that will never disappear and rest. Su Tong is a real pioneer's writer, the real pioneer is as before.
