The Study Of "Duanzhu" Gu-Jinzi

The scholar Duan Yucai in Qing dynasty had done research on ancient and modern characters (Gu-jin zi) in his book of Shuowen Jiezi Zhu, which represents the key period of semantic development. Later, some scholars have done a lot of research in this regard from the perspective of linguistic and semantic development. Based on previous research, this paper will discuss those disputable issues.This paper consists of an introduction and four chapters. In introduction part, it will present the current situation on research of ancient and modern characters(Gujinzi) and brief reviews on certain issues brought by Qing scholars and modern experts.Chapter one is to indicate the reasons and significance of discussing this topic, come up with the standard on distinguishing ancient and modern characters (Gu-jin zi) of Shuowen Jiezi Zhu, and put forward new research methods.Chapter two is to deal with the definition and characteristics of ancient and modern characters (Gu-jin zi). Firstly, it will define the meaning of Gu-jin zi based on many scholars'research. Secondly, it will reveal the regularity of Gu-jin zi through three aspects of form, sound, and meaning.
