| Vocabulary is essential to language learning. A limited vocabulary will make it hard for L2 learners to perform well in complicated situations or language activities, which is the case with most Chinese learners. As far as learners' dictionary concerned, English learners' dictionaries and English-Japanese learners' dictionaries on the whole have realized this need and taken a further step in the inclusion of a certain amount of information about vocabulary building.This study attempts to give some suggestions of the representation of such information from the perspective of second language learning. To begin with, the study first introduces the strategy instructions of vocabulary learning and selects three of them as the basis for studies in the next two chapters after reviewing the studies carried out among Chinese learners. The comparative analysis has been carried out of three ELDs: 0ALD6, LDCE4, and MEDAL, and two EJLDs: Lighthouse and Multi-function to see their respective application of the three strategies.With enlightenment from the ELDs and EJLDs, and still with the three strategies as the guidelines, some suggestions of the treatments of information about vocabulary building in ECLDs has been put forward.After the tentative suggestions, the thesis ends with some limitations of the study and suggestions for further study. |
