Abstract/Summary:
The 1960s is a very important period in American history. From the economic perspective, it has entered the"Welfare country"and"Affluent society", which the people's living standards greatly improved. But in other areas there were a number of problems such as racial discrimination and Youth rebelling, etc. The campus revolt movement refers to a critical campaign which was launched by the University students to against American political system and social problems. The Youth appeared on the stage of history, launched a challenge to the traditional values with a variety of methods. They engaged in the radical political movements, shouting"democracy, freedom, equality", setting off a wave of campus revolution, and combated the traditional lifestyle through music, clothing, etc, fiercely criticised the developed industrial society which has curbed and destroyed humanity. The campus revolt movement had a strong Utopian color and anarchical tendency. It was a revolution of culture and values rather than a political , economic reform. In the area of ideology, it has shakened American traditional puritanical values, in the asrea of real policy, it has forced the U.S government from the Vietnam escalated to withdrawal, in the area of human rights, it has accelerated the development of domestic campaign against the racial discrimination.Although this movement was transient as blowing winds, but the American society and its culture have been changed. The"spirit of the 1960s"builded by the students opposition has provided a typical example for American social movement. This social criticism of institutionalized power directly or indirectly promoted social reforms after 1960s. In other words, the rebelling spirit never dies with the disappearance of political movements, which quietly infiltrates the academic, political and social fields, and imperceptibly influnces Ameriacan society now and the future.
