With rapid development of modern science and technology, news, which serves as one of the most important mass communications, is getting more and more closely related to human life. Hence, news translation inevitably plays an important role in information communication. This thesis aims at researching into the features of journalistic English and its translation theory for developing the effective ways of translation of journalistic English. The thesis first introduces the relevant knowledge of news. It includes the definition of news, news worthiness and types of news. Chapter two is to theorize the methodology I apply in this thesis. First, I introduce some principal translation theories, including Eugene A. Nida's theory, functional theory and some traditional Chinese translation theories. Then I make a detailed introduction of Peter Newmark's "communicative translation and semantic translation" theory and explain why I take his theory as the theoretical direction in news translation. Finally I focus on the news translation on different levels. In this part, certain stylistic features of journalistic English and news structure are analyzed. And specified translation methods are displayed respectively on different levels, such as lexical, syntactic and rhetorical levels. In the practice of journalistic English translation, how Newmark's theory is applied is also clearly explained.
