In the last century, society has undergone three changes, May 4th Movement of 1919, early statehood, the reform and opening up. Each change will be to inject fresh blood of modern Chinese language terminology system. The third great changes happened from 1979 to 2005 belong to reform and opening up. During this period, China's economic pattern from a planned economy to a socialist market economy, liberal political climate, a strong cultural atmosphere, the social background also produced tremendous changes. Social changes bring the meanings of modern Chinese language phrases a distinct change. This paper studies on the evolution of the meanings. We select nine classic phrases, through the analysis of collected material to compare the new meanings and the old, prove the new characters, features and concepts that word change causes, and grasp the evolution of the overall trend.All materials used can be roughly divided into three categories: 1) Modern Chinese Dictionary Phrase Interpretation.2) XinHua new phrase dictionary, many new word dictionaries have been published, the open publication and distribution of newspapers and publications. Promptly reflected the new meaning in social life, most of the new meaning is alive in newspapers and magazines, having a fairly high utilization rate.3)Baidu, Google, the Internet search engine retrieval language material. At the same time this has also made some quantitative analysis. We will analyze, compare Modern Chinese Dictionary 1996 revised edition with the 2005 edition and get statistical data. And we also borrow some researchers the results got from comparison the Modern Chinese Dictionary 1983 edition and the 1996 revised edition. And put them together for mutual comparison.This text can be divided into the following four parts:The first part: Select nine words and compare their meaning at different times to study the process of replacement of old and new concepts.The second part: Explain the phenomenon of old words new meaning. Explain the reason why the new meaning is adhered to the original phrase and why the old meaning is replaced by the new.
