On Development History Of Gansu Opera

Gansu Opera has become most influential in Gansu province after experiencing development for almost half a century. The Gansu Opera House (formerly: Gansu Opera Troupe), the only professional troupe which specializes in creation and performance of opera, is the main body for development of Gansu opera, bearing the historical responsibility of developing Gansu Opera. In the artistic practice for half a century, it created and performed about 100 large and small scaled operas. At different historical stages always came out excellent works, which reflected features of Gansu of the age and enriched people's cultural life, thus promoting the development of literature and art with an intense sense of times, strong flavor of life, specific national style and regional characteristics and its profound artistic appeal. However, the cultural resource embodying a whole life's painstaking efforts of many artists has faded away due to a lack of systematic sifting and studying and effective exploring and inheriting. Therefore, it turned out that it's urgent and necessary to sift and study the development of the Opera career of Gansu Opera House.With development history of Gansu Opera House as a clue, this article collects and sifts almost all extremely precious historical materials since the birth of Gansu Opera House used as a study case and gives the opera development history an all-rounded and systematic generalization and summary, comprehensively using such research methods as documenting and interviewing. It also makes an accurate record of opera creation and performance at different historical stages, introduces the content of representative operas, music, performance, directing, stage art, main working staff and leading actors so as to explore the artistic characteristics of Gansu opera. Besides, it analyzes and summarizes the great impact of Gansu opera on development history of Gansu literature and art and opera development history of China and its contribution. By studying the opera development history of Gansu Opera House, all-rounded and detailed historical materials and experiences that can be used for reference, could be provided to enhance a further prosperity and development of Gansu Opera.
