Portrayal brick as one of art forms was most prevalent in Han Dynasty and later the special social ideology of Song Dynasty gifted it distinctive characteristics. Today, in Qingshui County, Gansu province, the portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty represent the native art style and the distinct culture of the time.The present study starts with the discussion about the basic characteristics of the portrayal bricks, explores the art style, and analyzes the factors influencing and contributing to the artistic form, aiming at a further understanding of the practical significance and artistic value of the portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui County, Gansu Province.The present study consists of five chapters.Chapter one is a general introduction to the colored portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui County, Gansu Province, featuring the reasons why colored portrayal bricks became prevalent then.Chapter two is a general analysis of the colored portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui County, Gansu Province. This part serves as a foundation to further exposition of the essay.Based on the discussion of first two chapters, chapter three focuses on the artistic characteristics and style of the colored portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui County, Gansu Province.Chapter four explores the factors contributing to the formation of the art. The focus of this part is a comprehensive understanding of the art style and thus a proper evaluation of the unique art.Chapter five summarizes the artistic value of the colored portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui County, Gansu Province.Based on the achievements of previous research on portrayal bricks in combination with relevant studies on culture and anthropology, the present study conducts a through exploration on the colored portrayal bricks in tombs of Song Dynasty and Jin Dynasty in Qingshui, Gansu Province, aiming at a better understanding of the artistic style and value of the art. In addition, the present study sheds new light on the appreciation of cultural and spiritual significance of traditional folk art and understanding its artistic language, styles and forms will have a positive effect on the creation of modern art.
