Abstract/Summary:
Ling Shuhua is a 1990s writer discussed much in the mainland. The former studies are profound and wide. Based on the former studies, this thesis starts with the feminine criticism, with a narratology angle, reinterprets Ling" s novels to find the inner culture importance. Under a male-dominant society, the progressing culture and the old rules prevented the women to have a free life, which is history. However, not just the females are harmed, in fact, the whole society is harmed. In a deep sense, it relates the relationship between an individual and the history. The difficulties are for the humankind. This thesis can be divided into 4 parts,Part I. The present studies of Ling Shuhua' s Novels: A survey of the studies on Ling' s novels tells us that there were two times that ling was studied thoroughly. The first time was in the New Cultural Movement. At that time, the themes and the art style were focused;the second time happened in the New Period the novels are studied from the art style, feminism and response, etc. However, we still need integrate, thorough studies of Ling' s novels' style. Thus, the studies on it may be furthered.Part II. " A different writing" : comparing to the New Cultural Movement writers, Ling connected the" feminine inner" theme with the traditional culture' s corruption and examined the male - dominant social order. As for this, male writers focused on the unusual state of the male-dominant society and the country and nationality. Ling, however, focused on the sex constrain: the female' s inner desire, the heroin' s psychological struggle, the desire conflicts, the self disintegration and the inner contradiction. That made Ling different from other writers. They paid attention to the destiny of the nationality and Ling to the individual. Other writers were writing about the country, and Ling exposed the feminine consciousness. Part II analyzed thefeminine discourse, the competition between the ladies in the old times and the new life difficulties the new women in the New Cultural Movement met. Part III. Object and realism: Ling' s novels were written objectively. It was shaped under the influence of Russian short story writer Chekov . The writer tried to narrate objectively with exposing the "mind truth" , paying no or little attention to the plot.Part Iv: A "literati painting " style. A painter and a writer, Ling combined writing and painting perfectly, which can express better and a unique art style emerged, too. Starting with combination of the literary aesthetic and the painting aesthetic, the simple, slight style and the " empty is the best" emptiness, this thesis analyzed the experimental value and the new writing technique because of the combination.
