The southwest mandarin belongs to the second largest dialect in Hunan province. But the research about it still remains very weak inside Hunan province. The theses and monographs about the southwest mandarin are very limited and there are also quite a few points about thedialects need to be investigated. The author's hometown------Linli countyis among them. The dialect of Linli county which locates at the north of Hunan province has never been valued much by the academic field. It lacks of systematic research. Monographs and even the theses about Linli dialect are far less than enough. Therefore the author chose Linli as the starting point, and had a systematic and deep research about the phonetics of Linli county, which based on the local investigation. The author conducted compassion research to Linli dialect from different angles. According to that investigation and comparison analysis, the author divides Linli dialect into five sub-groupings.The body of the thesis is divided into six parts:The Introduction simply introduces the geography, history, population, the usage of the language, the research situation of Linli dialect as well as the key points and significance of the research conducted in this thesis.Chapter One generally describes the phonetic system and the features of the rhyme.Chapter Two is about the research and analysis about the variability of the phonetic phenomena including analysis of light tone and er suffix and literary reading and colloquial reading.Chapter Three lists the homonyms of Linli dialect.Chapter Four is about a comparison research on the phonology about Linli dialect and phonetic system in ancient China.Chapter Five is about a comparison research on Linlin dialect and mandarin system.Chaper Six gives a comparison research to the inner difference of Linli dialect and the surrounding area dialects.And rest part is about the analysis and comparison about Linlin dialect and southwest mandarin and make a conclusion that Linli dialect belongs to southwest mandarin.
