The modernistic character is dissertated in this paper by discussing the anti-pastoral tendency in Shi Tuo's agrestic writing. In his novel, the Guo-yuan city is quiet on surface but turbulent in interior. In Guo-yuan city, people on varies estates all can't break away from the same doom that to the people who wander in all their lives or return to hometown. Shi Tuo's attitude towards the Guo-yuan city, one's hometown, is modernistic criticism which is similar to Lu Xun's style. Anti-pastoral essence is full of his article and his several novels which depict anti-aggression.Shi Tuo depicts that the screwy humanity struggle with the pressure of urbanism in his writing with theme of urbanism. Similar to Shen Congwen's anti-modernity, it denotes that the author animadvert on modernity, which can be seen as an extraordinary modernity. In addition, because Shi Tuo went away from hometown and was stranded in city due to indigence, poor food for thought and losing ideal. So he looked for psychic bailment from the cockles of his heart. These sentiments are largely expressed in his writing. It can be seen from his writing that the author depicted a lot of modernistic themes such as death and loneliness and so on. Moreover, these sentiments are the mutual bemusements for these intelligentsias in 1930s and 1940s.Besides, Shi Tuo carries through a great deal of exploration on writing technique. First, he produces many novels which focusing on depicting mental. Second, the poetic language is used for depicting great lot scenery in his novel. These breakthrough the traditional story ruts which thinking much of polt and narrating single angle. The modernistic in Shi Tuo novels is also displayed from that he licks into shape the complete character of Hu Qu e triumphantly. Besides this, on recounting technique, the author attempts to exert diary style, epistle style and other types of literature All these represent Shi Tuo's stories' modernistic character on producing skill.
