Xin Qiji is a great poet and a praiseworthy historical personage as well. The study on him and his works is always conspicuous, and the vast and numerous achievements have been brought forth. Thus, it's not easy to express my own opinions any more. It, however, will conceal this sage's value to make no comments on him. Therefore, I will try to probe into his life and originals from this permanent problem—the predicament and meaning of human life. I believe that the ancients faced the trial of seeking the authentic self as the people in modern times do. "The road forward is long, and I will continually strive for the truth", came from Qu Yuan who was pursuing his real self in all his life. Although people are consistently talking about his choice and the way he dealt with his self, but seeking authentic self is their lifelong pursuit of the scholars and philosophers. So was Xin Qiji. He came from the controlled area like a seed sown in the foreign lands which was bound to undergo much anxiety and misery in order to grow up. Nevertheless, He didn't withdraw; he was continuously pursuing the meaning of his self and persevered in pursuit of his "authentic"self. Human existence lies in his uncertainty and incompletion, his unceasing understanding of his self and constant development and transcendence of his self. So did Xin Qiji's. In the process of pursuing his real life, he went through three states: understand self and pray for redeeming his real self; develop his self and persist in aspiring after high official status and obligation; return to self and head toward authenticity. During the course of recovering and seeking his self, he went from the early tragedy to the late meditation and from the tenacious struggle to his integration with nature. His works formed the states of "with self"and "without self"and the organic unity of them Wang Guowei ever said during his whole life. This dissertation will make a necessary narration of their composition and appearance.
