Based on Case Grammar and Government and Binding Theory, the thesis redefines the connotation of Verb-copying sentence, establishes its deep semantic frame, explores the generative process and summarizes the cause of generation and the syntactic meaning, which to a certain extent , further the study on Verb-copying sentence. The thesis covers:1. According to Case Grammar, Part 1 begins with analysis on deep semantic relation, then establishes the semantic frame of Verb-copying sentence, then, subcategorizes the Verb-copying sentence indirectly by applying arguments that constitute deep-structure and semantic direction as criteria and further elaborates on several sample sentence structures.2. Most sentences are alike on the surface level, they diverse on the deep level. According to the categorization made in Part 1, the thesis analyzes the generative process of each category and reaches the conclusion that the generation of Verb-copying sentence is mainly compulsory with only a few exceptions. Then, on the pretext of this supposition, the thesis summarizes the cause of generation of Verb-copying sentence: internal cause and external cause.3. Summarizes syntactic meaning through syntax, semantic and pragmatic. The syntactic meaning of Verb-copying sentence show that the position changed on the syntax, causing meaning and describing meaning are the characteristic on the semantic expression. The marked meaning of repeated application of verbs in Verb-copying sentence decides the pragmatic meaning of the sentence and the syntactic position is reflected in pragmatic expression, which leads to the essential conclusion that"result"is the core pragmatic meaning of Verb-copying sentence.
