Three Models Of Cultural Criticism

Cultural criticism has been more well-marked since 1990s in china. But the connotation isn't consistent in practice yet. In present, there are three different theory tendencies about cultural criticism among scholars as below: 1) equate to narrow sense Cultural Study hammering at culture animadversion;2) with an eye to Culture of mankind, emphasize cultural criticism of literature and 3) with a view to comparative literature engage in cultural compare of cross-civilization. Actually, these three tendencies are three different understandings about Cultural criticism and in practice there are three different operation models: political poetics cultural criticism;culture-anthropology cultural criticism and comparative culture Cultural criticism.Cultural criticism of 1990s is formed by western Culture Study, whose culture theories construct the three basic cultural criticism models of China, concretely comporting as below:1) The culture theories of narrow sense Culture Study, i.e. coming of Birmingham School's Culture Study construct political poetics cultural criticism. Concretely say, the culture theories of structuralism, post-structuralism and post-modernism construct ideology criticism, feminism criticism, racism criticism, post-colonialism criticism, mass-cultural criticism and so on. This criticism model values culture critique and political participation more much.2) The culture theories of broad sense Culture Study, i.e. focusing on Culture of mankind construct culture-anthropology cultural criticism. Concretely say, in theory it comes from culturalism and anthropology theories and in value attitude it aims at analyses of literature works.3) Comparative culture Cultural criticism benefits from multi-culture and culture heterogeneity theories in globalization background. Concretely say, it applies comparative literature and translation theories to discuss the culture diversities of heterogeneous civilization aiming at culture dialogue.The paper discusses the three models different aspects from theory source, criticism standpoint, criticism characteristics and problem realms respectively to visualize the three different connotations.
