The popular stories are enjoying a boom in Jiajing and Wanli periods in Ming dynasty. In these two periods, they have their own characteristics because of the dissimilar times and environments. Two saga novels related to the story of Yang family -- " Bei Song Zhi Zhuan " and " Yang Jia Fu Shi Dai Zhong Yong Yan Yi Zhi Zhuan " respectively appeared in Jiajing and Wanli periods. They represented the average level of the popular stories in each times, and reflected the common artistic characteristics in popular stories.In Jiajing period, the popular stories are mostly composed by lower booksellers who copied the original text word for word or retouched the story on the basis of the original one. These works obviously carried the characteristics of storytelling in their linguistic style and the plot setup. In Wanli period, a lot of scholars entered into the field of the popular stories writing, they either went along the original creative works, or adapted the former novels. These works had the distinct dissimilarities from the novels in Jiajing period because of the times changing and the scholars attainments.In this article, I'll investigate these two novels comparatively from the narrative angle, and find that the scholar's composing novels consciously set up the plots around the characters ; they reduced the relater's interferes in plots and used the limited visual angle; the narrative tongue is more elegance and lively, the plot is more truthful in art, and they filtered the individual historic thinking. The above varieties reveal the common characteristics in the development of the popular stories in Ming dynasty.
