Self-concept, as divided into academic self-concept and non-academic self-concept, is an important theory in psycholinguistics, which is meaningful not only to the development of psychological health, but also to English study. Any individual has within himself/herself relatively boundless potential for developing a positive and realistic self-concept. At present, the researches about self-concept have changed from static study to dynamic study, from unitariness to multi-dimension, from humanism to positivism, and from theoretical study to applied study. This thesis analyzes the correlation between self-concept and English study, based on two major comparisons, which are the comparison between the students' self-concept and their CET achievement and the comparison between the students' self-concept and their Spoken English Test. The first comparison covers self-concept and English listening, self-concept and English reading, and self-concept and English writing. Emphasis is especially put on the second comparison between self-concept and English speaking. By recorded English spoken English test, scores are given firstly according to the evaluation of College English Test - Spoken English Test. Then, the voice is processed through Praat. At last, Spoken English Test scores and result of voice analysis are dealt by SPSS. All the experiments results show that those who score high in Self-concept Test also have better achievement than others in English listening, speaking, reading and writing. In another word, positive self-concept corresponds to excellent English performance. Therefore, the author suggests that English teachers should teach students methods of overall self-perception development, help students set up confidence in learning English through encouragement, provide psychological assistance to those students who are mentally troubled, lead students to increase willpower actively, and intensify students' English study self-concept in meaningful class activities. Also as for English learners, the author suggests that they should participate actively in social practice besides class activities, pay attention to others' attitudes and evaluations, gratify and accept themselves, and perfect and exceed themselves.
