Teacher-centered approach in English Language Teaching is not adapted to the requirement of quality-oriented education. With the strength of relationship between China and the world, functions of English communication become the main purpose of English teaching. English teaching of non-state run schools pay attention to examination. So, most of English teachers neglect to develop the communicative competence of students. Students cannot communicate correctly in class. Communicative approaches are not single and fixed patterns. The role of communicative approaches are "using languages to learn" and "learning to use languages" rather than "learning languages" let alone "learning knowledge about languages". The purpose of communicative approaches is to let students attain communicative competence. In class, students study English in communicative environment. They can acquire English language and communicative competence by listening, writing, reading and speaking. This paper firstly analyses the theories of communicative approaches, point out the roles of teachers and learners in learned-directed activities, put forward the functional communication and social interaction activities. In student-student interaction, teachers and students can interact; students can take part in communication. In the post-questionnaire, 85%of the students are for communicative approaches. Communicative approaches need students to participant and stress fluent languages to communication.
