Ye Tan Sui Lu is a collection of short stories in classical Chinese. The author, He Bange, (1736-?) studied and analyzed the prosperous period of KangXi (1662-1723) and QianLong (1736-1796) in which the author lived in an extensive and simple way. The extensity and profundity of reality it reflected are worth recommending. In particular, the direct bitter attacks to literary inquisition, the attention to middle-lower people in banner and description of customs in many regions are very distinctive. There is also innovation on art in Ye Tan Sui Lu. Its smart combination of real people and real incidents, careful description of people's character, its zigzag plot, employment of all kinds of dialects and characters in the middle class can show the author's special ingenuity and deep artistic accomplishment. So Ye Tan Sui Lu is one of the most important works in classical Chinese and its value must not be ignored.
