In the beginning of the 20th century, school songs started the winding way of the 100 years development of Chinese children's songs. From lyric filling in the early years to original lyrics and music later on, the Chinese children's song has developed an increasingly diversified ways of expression, and therefore has been playing an important part in Chinese music, especially in the field of composition. However, nowadays there is still a lack of research on the development of Chinese children's song.With the history and society of 20th century China as the background, the essay-divides the 100 years' history of Chinese children's song into three periods: pre-modern times, modern times, and contemporary times. From the angle of art characteristics and development, the history of Chinese children's song experiences five stages, namely, beginning, transition, prosperity, depression and renaissance. Adhering to the trend of history and social reality, the essay raises a creative point. With an eye to the characteristics of children's song in different periods, the essay develops in three layers. The first layer: to analyze the cultural content of children's song from the aspect of politics, economy, ideology, music concept, the construction of creation and the theory of art education. The second layer: to summarize the artistic forms of children's song such as lyric, melody, rhythm, beat, tempo, strength, patterns of music, the techniques of development, theme and structure and generalize its typical characters. The third layer: to explore some basic features of children's song in terms of general style, impression and the changing artistic psychology.By devoting to the classification and analysis of some classical works of children's songs written in different periods of history, the essay aims at studying the development and internal relationship of children's song over the 100 years. From the perspective of academic research and subject establishment, the essay puts an end to the lack of the research on the children's song in the history of Chinese music of the 20 century and provides some historic consult and reference for the creaction and development of the Chinese children's song in the new century.
