Analyze On The Role Of English Native-speaker Teachers In English Teaching

To meet the requirements of the trend of economic globalization, the ever-changing scientific and technological development as well as the international competition based on economic and comprehensive national strength, China has made life-long study a basic strategy for the whole nation. Consequently, it is an urgent task for the educators to enhance the English proficiency for its people.English plays a vital role in international competition in the new century though many refer to it as a tool of language communication. China has made considerable achievements in English teaching and learning. Even so, the shortcomings of "low efficiency and time consuming", "dumb English" have long been criticized. Native speakers, as an indispensable part in foreign language learning, have taken their part since the middle of 19th century. The study aims at discussing whether native speakers play any role and to what extent they contribute to foreign language learning. Schools of all levels elementary, secondary schools and universities and colleges, are included and a mixed method is applied in the research to combine history and the reality, theory and the practice.The study consists of five parts. The preface explains briefly the reason, meaning and research methods. The first part, a systematic research and discuss over the definition, nature and basic principles of foreign language teaching and learning. Shortcomings of present foreign language teaching practice are discussed in the second part. The third and fourth parts, from both teaching and learning aspects, compare and analyze the features of native and non-native speaker teachers, students' output in different environments and the teaching theories of foreign teachers and the results. The last part comes to the conclusion that enhance English proficiency need foreign language teachers in the foreign language teaching .And it is necessary to employ more professional native-speaker teachers to further develop the foreign language teaching and learning.
