| For the latest decades, linguistic and psychological researchers have gradually understood the importance of the psychological process of language acquisition and application, and have achieved so much by describing the psychological process of language acquisition and application from various perspectives. Since language is the performance of mental labor, some researches give explanations of language using psychology when the learners use certain strategies. Some study the acquisition psychology on the base of linguistics. While some others are continuously developed in the field of cognition, reading theories and models, and practical applications etc.According to so many different studies, this thesis covers the relevant materials of them to analyze the characteristics, then to explain one branch of second language acquisition and application—reading, in a psycho-linguistic way. What are the psychological features of most college students in China as SLA learners when they learn English? What are the psychological factors influencing their reading proficiency and how?The psychological factors of reading are affected by so many elements such as reading purposes, environment, reading contents, readers, personal cognition, age, L1 competence, cultural difference and study experience. It is obvious that psychological factors are passively affected by the above factors, meanwhile it directly exerts its influence over reading proficiency.
